Accessibility: what we check on every build
A site should work for everyone who visits it, however they read, see or move around a page.
What we check
- Text contrast. Text dark or light enough against its background to read.
- Keyboard reach. Every link, button and form works with a keyboard alone.
- Screen-reader labels. Images, buttons and fields carry words a screen reader can speak.
- The nightly check. On the care plan, Google's accessibility check scores your front page and one other main page every night, as a phone sees them. The target is 100, and we are alerted when a score misses it two nights running.
The standard
We aim for WCAG 2.1 AA: the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, the published rules for sites people can use with low vision, a keyboard or a screen reader. Our checks measure part of it, not all of it.
